Little River

Little River, South Carolina lies 20 miles north of Myrtle Beach and is one of the oldest towns in Horry County. Early Native Americans called the stream running through the area "Mineola," meaning little river. The early name stuck and the town became a prosperous port area in the 1850’s. A sawmill, a school, a bank, homes, and churches were built but business in the area soon declined due to the Civil War and a coastal blockade. With the building of roads and the new popularity of automobiles, the area began to transition from a shipping port to a fishing village in the 1920’s.

Located on the Intracoastal Waterway, Little River is now home to numerous commercial and recreational fishing ventures. Today, Little River is a laidback alternative for tourists looking to visit the Grand Strand. Despite being a small waterfront town, Little River still offers locals and tourists a variety of golf courses, seafood restaurants, fishing charters, stores, and more.
